TO THE CITIZENS OF GRAND RAPIDS We are pleased to provide this Executive Summary of BACK TO THE FUTURE: The Grand Rapids Police Department Strategic Plan To Implement Community Policing as Part of Community-Oriented Government. As you will see, this plan provides a map to a future where the City, its police, and the community will work together on efforts to make our city a better and safer place in which to live and work and raise families. As our title BACK TO THE FUTURE attests, we worked hard throughout this planning process to honor and reinvent the legacy of the past to address today’s challenges. We are therefore proud to announce that the City of Grand Rapids has made the commitment to break new ground, literally and figuratively, by approving the plan to build six decentralized Neighborhood Police Service Centers. Together they will cover the entire city with seamless service, a visible expression of the goal of moving the police and appropriate City services closer to the community. We are enthusiastic about the challenges ahead and look forward to continued input and support from Grand Rapids residents and those who care about exploring imaginative and effective ways to enhance the quality of life in our neighborhoods.
